Description
Scarce WW2 era American “home front” type fighting dagger manufactured during the by some unknown maker. The dagger closely resembles Case Cutlery “pig sticker” fighting stilettos but this just isn’t the Case quality. This type was made available to the GIs as a private-purchase fighter option during the war. This exact type is illustrated on page 187 of the KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATESMILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert an author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see the book’s page scan attached). Since no-one seems to know who the original maker was, this is not a particularly expensive though-after WW2 fighting knife type but it is still an original and desirable WW2 era specimen and an important part of the American military history.
This specimen has obviously been used; the dual-edge blade has been sharpened, but not harshly; the handle is intact. The dagger is in better than average condition for the type, considering the age and the typical abuse in the field. Dual-edge carbon steel blade with bright chromed finish; the blade is razor-sharp still; the tip is intact; the knife is completely unmarked. Stacked leather washers, iron guard, and a solid aluminum pommel handle; the washers are intact; all parts are tight with no play. The dagger is about 11-1/4″ / 28.5 cm overall; the blade is about 6-7/8″ /17.5 cm long. Original leather scabbard is in very good condition, considering the age. All rivets and stitching are intact; the keeper is original and fully functional; the front panel is stamped H-6839; probably a US Navy ship but I’m not 100% sure. This original WW2 private purchase fighting knife is in above-average condition for the type; it will make a great addition to any collection!
This original “home front” WW2 private purchase fighting knife / stiletto dagger has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way; it is in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the knife 😉 I have a few more vintage American and European knives, as well as WW2 era combat knives and bayonets, scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives from other countries available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
