Description
WW2 knuckle fighting knife, illustrated “private purchase” type large fighting dagger, original leather scabbard included. Extremely rare WW-II era fighter in excellent overall condition; hard-to-find this nice and complete.
A very well-made original WW2 era fighting dagger with a dual-edge spear-point blade and a solid cast aluminum handle forming a 4-point “knuckleduster”, original leather scabbard is included. This exact “knuckle knife” type dagger is illustrated on page 78 of the THEATER MADE MILITARY KNIVES OF WORLD WAR II published in 2001 by Bill and Debbie Wright (see the book’s scan attached). Although this knife is illustrated in Bill and Debbie Wright’s book, this is in not a “one off” so-called “theater” knife. Several fighting knives with these handles have been documented and popped up at various auctions from time to time. All this points to a knife maker who produced this this type as a private purchase product. The knife is completely unmarked, we will never know the maker’s name, unfortunately.
This “knuckleduster” fighting knife is about 12-3/8″ / 31.5 cm overall; dual-edge blade is about 7-3/4” / 19.7 cm long. The blade is in excellent condition with light-gray original patina, the tip is intact; no dings or edge nicks on the blade. Solid cast aluminum handle with four points knuckle guard. Both sides of the handle have identical “diamonds” pattern formed by a cast. The handle is in excellent condition; all parts are tight with no play; no cracks, chips, or heavy ding marks on the handle. Hard-to-find original WW2 era leather scabbard is included; it is stamped 228 on the top of the belt hanger. Original leather cord leg tie is included as well but it has broken off – see photos. Other than that, the scabbard is in excellent condition, considering the age. All original stitching, rivets and keeper – all are intact; the leather is soft and supple still. This cWW2 knuckle fighting knife type is VERY hard-to-find in any shape or form nowadays. Most of the surviving WW2 knuckle fighting knife types are in private collections and are off the market. Don’t miss your chance to add this rare WW-I era fighter to your collection!
This rare WW2 knuckle fighting knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it is in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; Garand clips are not included with the knife 😉 I have several WW2 era daggers, bayonets and several fighting knives made from converted WW1 sabers, as well as some scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives available for sale – please take a look in the store’s Militaria section.
