WW2 Germany EF Horster Infanteriemesser 42 fighting knife trench dagger in original metal scabbard – hard to find “Model 42 Infantry Knife”. All parts intact; great overall condition, rare as such.
Original WW2 era German Army Model 42 Infantry Knife (Infanteriemesser 42) fighting dagger manufactured circa 1942-1944 by E&F Horster in Solingen, Germany. Classic WW2 German full-tang construction boot knife with wood handle scales, small integral guard, and original metal scabbard with a “leaf” spring. This exact type is illustrated on page 212 of the excellent French reference book by Christian Mary Knives and Daggers-Bayonets Used by the German Army During 1914-1945 (see the book’s page scan in the photos).
This fighting knife is excellent condition – no pitting, dings or nicks on the blade; the tip is intact. The dagger is about 10-1/2” / 26.5 cm overall; the blade is about 5-7/8” / 15 cm. Ricasso is stamped E&F HORSTER / SOLINGEN; the edge is pretty sharp still; no damage to the tip; VERY rare this nice. Original wood handle scales are nice and tight; the dagger is solid with no loose parts. Original metal scabbard; “leaf spring” belt hanger is a bit bent but in 100% serviceable condition still.
Almost 80 years later this German WW2 fighting knife is still in excellent shape, considering the age. Today most of the surviving WW2 era Infanteriemesser 42 knives are in private collections & rarely come up for sale.
