WW2 Fairbairn Sykes dagger – British FS fighter 3rd pattern, original metal-tipped leather scabbard included. Great overall condition, considering the age.
Classic WW2 era British FS “Fairbairn Sykes” fighting dagger with blued dual-edge blade and original metal-tipped leather scabbard. This is FS’ 3rd pattern manufactured during the war. This exact FS dagger type is illustrated on page 133 of the KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert an author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see the book’s page scan attached). Originally designed as the “commando dagger” for the elite British special-ops forces, these “FS” fighting knives became super-popular with the British and American servicemen stationed in the UK during the war. The allied servicemen carried FS daggers in practically every combat theater in Europe, North Africa and in the Middle East. Looks like one of the US Army Rangers overlooking Anzio beachhead landing (Southern Italy) is sporting one such British-made FS dagger – see the photo scan attached.
This WW2 Fairbairn-Sykes dagger has been used in the field but it’s in much better than average condition for the type; it’s a great-looking combat specimen. The blade is very sharp still, no edge damage; looks like the very end of the tip was lost and the end of blade was professionally re-sharpened. Grooved cast handle with a thick iron double-guard and a bronze lug nut for the pommel. The underside of the guard is marked ENGLAND; all parts are solid with no play; a few minor cracks on the edge of the handle under the lug nut are noted for accuracy (likely the result of the hammering on a hard surface). This dagger is about 10-3/4″ / 27.4 cm overall; the blade is about 6″ / 15.3 cm; the tip is intact; over 90% of the original “gun-gray” blade bluing is remaining. Original leather scabbard is in great shape overall, considering the age. Leather “wings” are intact; the belt hanger part with a retention strap is in excellent shape with no damage; the top is stamped ENGLAND. Original metal scabbard’s tip is in great shape with no play. The throat is intact; no typical cuts or “puncture wounds” – this type is VERY scarce this nice. Don’t miss your chance to add this original WW2 British Fairbairn Sykes FS dagger to your collection!
This classic British WW2 Fairbairn-Sykes FS dagger has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it is in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; Lee Enfield clips and silver Shillings are not included with the lot I have a few more British-made knives & daggers, several fighting knives made from converted sabers, as well as some scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
