Description
An interesting WW2 era “private purchase” fighting dagger made in the US during the war from whatever material were available to a knifemaker at the time. Most of the time these inexpensive but practical fighters were made from re-purposed butcher knives, saw blades, etc. Similar types are illustrated on page 184 of KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert an author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see the book’s scan attached).
This is a simple but practical fighter with a great balance and a perfect fit. Simple hardwood handle scales on iron pins and a small brass double-guard; the handle is tight; all parts are solid with no play. High-carbon tool-grade steel blade was probably made from a large chef’s blade or a large butcher knife. This interesting fighter is about 12″ / 30.5 cm overall; dual-edge blade is about 7″ / 17.8 cm. The edges are razor-sharp still; the tip is intact. The sheath did not survive.
This interesting USA WW2 homefront fighting knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way; it is in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the knife 😉 I have more WW2 era American, British, Australian, New Zealand, and German fighting knives, as well as several scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers, bayonets and trench knives available for sale – please take a look in the Militaria section.
