Original WW2 era “MOORE” fighting knife with 5″ blade and cast aluminum handle; made during the war by Donald W. Moore in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This exact type is illustrated on page 162 of the KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert an author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see the book’s page scan attached). Moore made “private purchase” fighting knives as a side business in the basement of his house during after-work hours and sold quite a few of them to the servicemen during the war. But if a GI came to his house in uniform, Moore would give the man a knife for free.
This is a classic Moore Fighter – cast aluminum handle is stamped MOORE in a small half-circle; tool-grade carbon steel blade is unmarked. The knife is only slightly used, excellent shape overall – the blade is razor-sharp; the tip is intact; minor staining on the aluminum handle is noted for accuracy (cleanable). Solid cast aluminum handle is near-perfect with no typical contact marks or dings on the pommel. The knife is about 8-7/8″ / 22.5 cm overall; the blade is about 5″ /12.8 cm long. The original brown leather sheath is in excellent shape as well – the leather is soft and supple; all stitching is intact; the keeper is nice and tight.
Overall, this WW2 Donald Moore fighting knife with original leather scabbard in near-perfect shape and is in 100% serviceable condition – VERY rare this nice as most of “Moore fighters” were used as intended. Don’t miss your chance to add it to your collection!
This attractive WW2 Donald Moore fighting knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it’s in 100% original “as is” condition.
