WW2 Camillus USN MK2 fighting knife, correct gray U.S.N. NORD composition scabbard. ID’s to JAMES CHRISTAKOS; WW2 US Navy Petty Officer Fireman 1st Class. Great overall condition, considering the age.
Original WW2 era famous US Navy Mark 2 “Ka-Bar” fighting knife (the link is a courtesy of Wikipedia) manufactured by Camillus Cutlery out of Camillus, NY; great overall condition. The scabbard is stamped J. CHRISTAKOS on both sides in large block letters – James Christakos (04/04/1929-12/13/2006) was the US Navy Petty Officer Fireman 1st Class. Mr. Christakos’ last resting place is Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, New Castle County, Delaware, USA. The knife is used, but it it is better than average condition; no edge nicks on the blade, the tip is intact; the pommel is excellent with no contact marks.
This is the guard-marked type with a “plain” unmarked blade. The guard is stamped CAMILLUS on one side, U.S.N. MK2 on the other. Leather washers handle with a heavy round pommel and slightly curved guard; all parts are perfectly tight with no play. The knife is about 12″ / 30.5 cm overall; blued blade is about 6-15/16″ /17.7 cm. The edge (including the upper “false” edge) has been re-sharpened; it is RAZOR-sharp to the point one can shave with it.
Original “navy-gray” NORD composition scabbard was made by Victory Plastics division of Beckwith Manufacturing (B.M. Co.); stamped J. CHRISTAKOS on both sides. The numbers on the back of the throat indicate the very first delivery date to the Navy in November 1943. This specimen was part of the first batch of new composition-materials model that had replaced the early-war all-leather scabbards. The scabbard is used but it is in 100% serviceable condition. Most of Mark 2 knives were used in the field as intended; “named” specimens in great condition are VERY hard to find nowadays – this WW2 fighter will be a great addition to any collection.
This attractive WW2 Ka-Bar USN MK2 fighting knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it is in 100% original “as is” condition; these are the actual photos.
