WW2 Camillus USN MK2 fighting knife, early blade-marked type. Original 1943 NORD composition scabbard; excellent overall condition, considering the age.
Original WW2 era famous US Navy Mark 2 “Ka-Bar” fighting knife (the link is a courtesy of Wikipedia) manufactured by Camillus Cutlery out of Camillus, NY. A very attractive USN Mark 2 specimen in excellent overall condition. This MK2 type is rare this nice as most of these large fighters were used in the field as intended. This is an early-production blade-marked type; ricasso is stamped CAMILLUS, N.Y. on one side, U.S.N. / MARK 2 on the other. The knife is about 12″ / 30.5 cm overall; blued blade is about 7″ / 17.8 cm; about 80 to 90% original bluing is intact. The blade is razor-sharp still; no contact marks on the spine, the tip is intact. Leather washers handle with a heavy round pommel and slightly curved guard; all parts are tight with no play. The pommel is excellent; the guard is solid with no play; leather washers are nice and tight with no contact marks.
Original “navy-gray” NORD composition scabbard was made by Victory Plastics division of Beckwith Manufacturing (B.M. Co.). The scabbard is in slightly used condition wit a few scratches on the front panel. The back is marked with initials MOD under the throat. The numbers on the back of the throat indicate that it was part of the very first batch of new composition scabbards delivered to the Navy in November 1943. The scabbard is in great condition overall; all-original “navy gray” finish; no stains on the webbing; original keeper is intact. Most of these late-war Mark 2 knives were used in the field as intended; specimens in better grades are hard-to-find nowadays. This early-production WW2 Camillus USN MK2 fighting knife will be a great addition to any collection.
