Description

WW2 Camillus USAF Pilot Knife, original leather scabbard. Scarce USAF “bail-out/fighting knife” type in great condition, considering the age.

Scarce American WW2 era US Army/Navy Pilot Knife made by CAMILLUS CUTLERY with original leather scabbard; “oval logo” type. These handy 5-inch blade knives were issued to the USAF crews during WW2 as an all-purpose fighting/utility knife in case of a bail-out.  During the war a relatively small order of “pilot knives” was placed with Camillus; these Pilot Knives are scarce in good condition these days. This exact type is illustrated on page 85 of the KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert an author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see the book’s page scan attached).

This original WW-II era WW2 Camillus USAF Pilot Knife is in very good overall condition, considering the age. High-carbon steel blade with “blood grooves” is in great shape – no edge nicks or dings on the spine; the tip is intact. Original light-gray patina throughout; the blade has not been cleaned or polished; the edge is very sharp still. Stacked leather washers handle with red-black-n-bronze spacers, bronze guard and an aluminum pommel; the handle is tight; the guard has a tiny bit of a play. The knife is about 9-1/4″ / 23.5 cm overall; the blade is about 5″ /12.8 cm long. Original brown leather scabbard is better than average condition for the type. All-original rivets and stitching; the keeper is intact; the leather is soft and supple still; this type is scarce this nice.

This attractive WW2 Camillus USAF Pilot Knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, this set is in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the lot 😉  I have a few more WW2 era combat knives and bayonets, scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives from other countries available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
