Original WW2 era US Navy Merchant Marine Sailor’s Knife with rosewood handle scales; manufactured circa 1942 by CAMILLUS CUTLERY COMPANY – one of the largest contributors of the edged weapons to the US military during the war. This knife type is illustrated in the U.S. MILITARY KNIVES; BOOK TWO published in 1973 by M. H. Cole – a well-established expert and the author of a number of books on the subject of the US military edged weapons (see the book’s scans attached).
This specimen is used, but it is in better than average condition for this type. The heavy-duty sheepfoot blade is about 3-1/2″ / 9 cm long; it has been very lightly sharpened, the tip is intact; the blade is tight with no wobble. The tang is stamped CAMILLUS / CUTLERY CO. / CAMILLUS, N.Y. / U.S.A. Original moisture-resistant jigged rosewood handle scales with steel bolsters & pins; original steel shackle is intact; all handle parts are tight. This large WW2 Camillus Merchant Marine Sailor knife is about 4-3/8″ / 11.2 cm closed; about 7-7/8″ / 20 cm fully opened. Overall, this scarce WW2 Camillus Merchant Marine Sailor knife is in great condition, considering the age; don’t miss your chance to add it to your collection!
