WW2 American Schrade paratrooper knife, early-production jigged bone handle scales type. Blade is tight, no damage to the handle; excellent overall condition – very rare as such. FREE EXPEDITED SHIPPING WITHIN THE U.S. FOR THIS ITEM.

Scarce early-production “Type 2” of the famous WW2 era US Paratrooper Switchblade Knife; manufactured early in the war by Schrade Cutlery in Walden, New York. This is an early-production folder with short-lived jigged bone handle scales on bronze pins – Schrade switched to the war-expedient all-metal handles pretty quickly to scale-up production and reduce costs. A scarce early-war model in rare practically unused condition. A similar type is illustrated on pages 72-72 of POCKET KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY book published in 2002 by Michael W. Silvey – a well-established expert on the subject of the US military edged weapons (see the book’s scan attached).

The knife is only slightly used, it is in much better than average condition for this type. The knife is about 4-1/4″ / 10.8 cm overall when closed; clip point blade is about 3” / 7.7cm long. The blade has not been professionally re-sharpened or polished; no nicks on the edge; the tip is intact; minor surface rust near the tang is noted for accuracy. The blade is tight with no play when opened; the edge is very sharp still; the tip is intact. The spring is tight and works as intended; blade lock is in perfect working order. The tang is stamped SCHRADE / WALDEN / N.Y. on one side and U.S. patent numbers and dates on the other. Original jigged bone handle scales are intact; no cracks or repairs. Nickel-silver blade lock and push-button; the bolsters are steel. All handle parts are tight with no play.
