Description
Original WW2 era 6.75-inch blade “private purchase” fighting knife manufactured during the war buy some unknown maker. This type is similar to another “private purchase” knife manufactured by PAL Cutlery Co but not as refined as the original RH36 fighter produced by PAL. This exact type is illustrated on page 189 in KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W. Silvey – a well-established expert an author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see the pages’ photos attached).
This sturdy fighting knife is about 11-1/2″ / 29.2 cm overall; bright-polish blade is about 6-3/4″ / 17.2 cm long. The edge is razor-sharp still; the tip is intact; a few minor surface rust spots are noted for accuracy (cleanable). Stacked leather washers handle with a solid aluminum pommel and a thin iron handguard. The handle is solid; all parts are tight with no play. The entire knife is completely unmarked as intended – quite a few makers were not marking their knives during the war if they used aluminum or bronze in the making. The use of strategic material like copper or aluminum for “non-essential” products was frowned upon by the government, so attracting Uncle Sam’s attention was bad for business. This fighter is in great overall shape, considering the age. Original leather scabbard is GI-signed MATUCK on the back; it’s in pretty good shape, the leather is soft and supple; some age-related stitching loss is noted for accuracy. This scabbard is in 100% serviceable condition still.
This WW2 American private purchase fighting knife and its original leather scabbard have not been cleaned or tampered with in any way. This original WW2 era fighter is in 100% original “as is” condition; these are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the knife 😉 I have several scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives available for sale – please take a look in the store’s Militaria section.
