Description
Original WW2 era fighting dagger manufactured early in the war by as a “private purchase” sidearm. These handy daggers came up for sale from time to time but the name of the original maker has been lost to time. This exact type is illustrated on page 194 of KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert and the author of several books on the subject of the US military edged weapons (see book’s page scan attached).
This fighting dagger is about 12” / 30.5 cm overall; excellent quality tool-grade high-carbon steel dual-edge blade is about 7-3/4″ / 19.7 cm. This is an early-war type that had mostly disappeared as the war progressed and aluminum became unavailable for items deemed “non-essential” for the war effort. Dual edge blade is very sharp still; the tip is intact. The handle is solid; all parts are tight with no play. Hard-to-find original leather scabbard is included. The scabbard is only slightly used; it is in much-better than average condition for the type. Original rivets and keeper are present and intact; the leather is soft and supple still – this type is rare this nice.
This attractive WW2 American fighting dagger is in very much serviceable condition; with proper care this old timer will last you another 80 years 🙂 This original WW2 American fighting dagger has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way; it is in 100% original “as is” condition; these are the actual photos. Garand clips are not included with the knife 😉
