Description
Original WW2 era M1905 bayonet manufactured in 1942 by the American Fork and Hoe Co. (marked AFH on ricasso); scarce uncut 16″-blade specimen. A scarce type in general – AFH manufactured a relatively small number of 350,00 M1905s during he war but by the early spring of the 1943 most of the original M1905 bayonets were cut-down to 10-inch blade and were re-furbished as the “short pattern” bayonets often referred to as M1942. Uncut WW2 era M1905 bayonets are hard to come by nowadays, especially in unused condition.
This is a well-made bayonet with crisp lines and a well-defined edge; ricasso is sharply stamped AFH / US “flaming bomb”/ 1942 on one side. The bayonet is used but it is in great overall condition for the type – all parts are tight, the edge is very sharp still; the tip is intact. No typical ding marks on the blade’s spine or on the pommel; black plastic handle grips are in great condition with no chips or cracks; all handle parts are tight with no play. The scabbard/bayonet release mechanism is excellent and 100% functional. The bayonet is about 20-1/2″ / 52 cm overall; the blade is about 15-7/8″ / 40.5 cm. Original “long” composition scabbard with MK1-marked steel throat is in very good condition. The US War Department had told the manufactures to “waste nothing”, so they used whatever material was suitable during production, including the unused quantity of scabbard parts intended for training bayonets and discontinued USN MK1 Utility Knife. The underside plate is marked B2/9N; steel throat is marked USN / MK 1; some surface rust on the metal throat is noted for accuracy. Overall, this WW2 AFH M1905 bayonet is in very much serviceable condition still. A desirable and highly collectible uncut M1905 specimen; this type is scarce this nice.
This scarce uncut WW2 AFH M1905 bayonet has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it’s in 100% original condition; these are the actual photos. Garand clips are not included with the lot 😉 I have several scarce WW1 and WW2 bayonets, fighting knives, daggers and trench knives available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
