WW1 Germany Anton Wingen Jr Kampfmesser fighting knife non-fixable trench dagger; original metal scabbard included. Scarce type in great overall condition, considering the age.
Original WW1 era German Army non-fixable Kampfmesser (close combat knife) manufactured circa 1914-1915 by Anton Wingen Jr. in Solingen, German Empire. Sturdy full-tang construction trench knife with checkered wood handle scales, forged curved iron guard, and original metal scabbard included. This type is illustrated on pages 149-151 of the excellent French reference book by Christian Mary Knives and Daggers-Bayonets Used by the German Army During 1914-1945 (see the book’s page scan in the photos).
This fighting knife is used but it’s in better than average condition for the type – no pitting, dings or nicks on the blade; the edge is very sharp still; needle-like tip is intact. The dagger is about 10-1/4” / 25.8 cm overall; the blade is about 5-3/4” / 14.6 cm. Original diamond pattern hardwood handle scales with 2 iron pins and a curved iron guard is nice and tight; all parts are solid with no play; a few typical contact marks on the pommel are noted for accuracy. Original metal scabbard is in great shape as well; the scabbard holds the blade nice and tight with no wobble. Most of the original black paint is gone; original belt hanger is still on; the keeper is a field-expedient replacement made from the period wrist watch leather band. After 100 plus years this attractive WW1 Germany Anton Wingen Jr Kampfmesser fighting knife is in 100% serviceable condition still. It is in great shape overall, considering the age; don’t miss your chance to add this scarce original WW1 Germany Anton Wingen Jr Kampfmesser fighting knife/trench dagger to your collection!
