Vietnam War Milpar M6 bayonet, original VIZ M8A1 composition scabbard – rare Philadelphia, PA M8A1 scabbard manufacturer contracted circa 1967; the contract lasted just 18 months. FREE SHIPPING WITHIN THE U.S. FOR THIS ITEM.

Original early Vietnam War era M6 bayonet that was specifically design for M14 battle rifle; this M6 specimen was manufactured by Columbus Milpar & Mfg (Milpar). The M6 was the only edged weapon issued for M14. In spite of excellent accuracy and ballistics, the M14 fell victim to the modern small-caliber small arms doctrine and had a very short service life. That led to the short-lived service for the M6 bayonet as well. This type is scarce nowadays, especially in decent grades. Attached in the photos is the scan of the original 1965 photograph by Eddie Adams of a young marine in Vietnam holding the M14 with the M6 attached.

The guard/muzzle ring is marked U.S. M6 / MILPAR COL; no markings on the blade or handle, as intended. About 11-3/8″ / 29 cm overall; the blade is about 6-5/8″ / 17 cm long. The blade has been re-sharpened; it is very sharp still; the tip is intact. Black plastic grips are in excellent condition for the type; the release mechanism is excellent and 100% functional. Original M8A1 composition scabbard was made circa 1967 by Viz Manufacturing was located at 335 E Price Street, Philadelphia PA (VIZ on the throat).  Viz Manufacturing was a supplier of instruments to the National Weather Service, as well as the US DOD. They made scabbards for just about 18 moths with the contract running out by the end of 1967 – this type is VERY hard to find. This scabbard had seen a lot use and abuse; the tip is damaged with several cracks and a small piece of plastic missing but the rest of the scabbard is in decent shape and holds the blade well.

This original Vietnam War Milpar M6 bayonet has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way. It’s in 100% original  “as is” condition; these are the actual photos. Garand clips are not included with the bayonet 😉 I have a few more Vietnam era American knives, as well as some British, Commonwealth, and German WW2 era combat knives and bayonets, plus several scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives from other countries available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
