Vietnam War Milpar M5A1 bayonet for M1 Garand, original PWH M8A1 composition scabbard; very good overall condition, considering the age. FREE EXPEDITED SHIPPING WITHIN THE U.S. FOR THIS ITEM.
Original early Vietnam War era M5A1 bayonet manufactured by Columbus Milpar & Manufacturing Co. Milpar was awarded a DOD contract for the M5A1 manufacture in 1962 ; the contract has ran out in 1969. The M5 / M5A1 bayonet was the first US battle rifle bayonet that was made almost entirely of cold-stamped parts, which greatly reduced costs and simplified manufacturing.
This specimen is in slightly used condition with original finish and factory edge. This M5 is about 11-1/4″ / 28.5 cm overall; parkerized blade is about 6-1/2″ / 16.5 cm long. The edge is fairly sharp still; the very end of the tip is intact. Ricasso is unmarked as intended; the guard is stamped U.S. M5A1 on one side, MILPAR COL the other. Black plastic handle grips are tight and in near-perfect condition. Bayonet release mechanism is excellent and 100% functional; all handle parts are solid with no play; minor contact marks (likely from a manufacturing process) are noted for accuracy. Original M8A1 composition scabbard was made by Pennsylvania Working Home for the Blind (PWH stamp on the throat). The scabbard is in used but in very good condition overall; the only detraction is dented metal tip protector. Unpainted “gun-gray” steel throat is stamped USM8A1 / PWH on the front side; number 29 is written on the front side. No spots or stains on the web hanger or oxidation around brass snaps and rivets.
This original Vietnam War Milpar M5A1 bayonet is in very good shape overall. These are the actual photos; Garand clips are not included with the bayonet I have a few more US-made bayonets, as well as some scarce WW1 and WW2 era fighting daggers and trench knives made in the US, Great Britain, France, Germany, and other countries available for sale – please take a look in the Militaria section.
