Vintage 6-inch blade fighter manufactured by Ka-Bar (Union Cutlery Co.) in Olean, NY circa 1970th. During the Vietnam War there was a demand for quality “private purchase” fighting knives. This sturdy model 1209 fighter was Ka-Bar’s late attempt to capture some of that market share. This is an excellent quality fighting knife, although by the time this model hit the market the US was winding down most of combat operations on the ground.
This knife is very well made; the handle is large and comfortable; the overall balance is excellent. The knife is about 11″ / 28 cm overall; parkerized blade is about 6″ / 15.2 cm long. Original factory edge, the tip is intact; ricasso is stamped KABAR / 1209 USA on one side. Dark laminated wood handle with black-finished steel guard and a solid aluminum pommel; all parts are tight with no play. Original flimsy sheath has been replaced by a quality custom-made leather scabbard that fits the blade perfectly. All original stitching is intact; the leather is soft and supple. The scabbard has “no snap, quiet” leather keeper in a form of a fancy knot.
This scarce vintage Vietnam War Ka-Bar fighting knife is in excellent overall condition. These attractive Vietnam War Ka-Bar fighting knife would make an excellent addition to any collection. The knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it is in 100% original “as is” condition.
