Description
One of a kind WW2 era “Bowie blade” fighting knife – a so-called “theater knife” probaly made by some unknown GI from whatever materials were available at hand. Similar types are illustrated in THEATER MADE MILITARY KNIVES OF WORLD WAR II book by Bill and Debbie Wright.
This is a somewhat crude but practical fighter with good balance and a perfect fit. Polished black Bakelite handle scales with aluminum guard and pommel. Solid full-tang construction; all parts are tight with no play. Wide clip-point high-carbon steel blade was probably made from a large butcher knife or a saw blade. This interesting USA WW2 theater fighting knife is about 12-5/8″ / 32 cm overall; dual-edge blade is about 8-1/8″ / 20.7 cm long; about 47 mm wide. The edge is razor-sharp still; the tip is intact; minor pitting is noted for accuracy. The sheath did not survive.
This original USA WW2 theater fighting knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way; it is in 100% original “as is” condition; these are the actual photos. I have a few more American, German, British, Italian, and French fighting knives, as well as some scarce WW2 and WW1 daggers, trench knives and bayonets available for sale – please take a look in the Militaria section.
