Spanish-American War Navy Yard NY Mark II Signal Pistol manufactured at the USN Yard in Brooklyn, New York City. All matching serials, brass frame, intact orig grips, clean barrel – not pitted; mechanically excellent with crisp action – VERY rare this nice.
Super-rare American Mark II Signal Pistol manufactured at the USN Yard in Brooklyn, New York City around the Spanish-American War. Overall, only about 700 of Mark II signal pistols were made – a scarce type and nearly impossible to find in such a nice condition. This type is a lot less common than the later-model Mark III produced by Remington in great numbers in time for WW1.
This specimen is one of the very first Mark II signal pistols made – serial number 60 is struck on the brass frame under the breach; all parts’ serials are matching, including the grips. The 10 gage barrel is about 9″ / 22.8 cm long; the spur trigger assembly still has most of it’s original bluing; no pitting on the barrel; the bore has a few spots but nothing major. Smooth walnut grips are original to the pistol; they are in excellent condition with no cracks or chips; a couple of minor contact marks are noted for accuracy. Great overall condition, considering the age; this flare pistol is only slightly used and mechanically excellent. The side of the brass frame is marked NAVY YARD, N.Y.; the “new” USN nomenclature model number MARK II is stamped the top of the barrel; no dings or nicks on the barrel; it locks tight with no play. This specimen is in much-better than average condition for the type and mechanically excellent – VERY rare as such.
This type is never to be tried with regular 10-gage shotgun ammunition – these flare guns were designed only for shooting low-pressure flare cartridges and are likely going to disintegrate if tried with modern ammo. That would be very dangerous, as well as illegal. Not cleaned or tempered with; scarce in such authentic condition – a lot of these flare guns have been polished or cleaned to a semi-white condition. This original Spanish-American War Navy Yard NY Mark II Signal Pistol will be a great addition to any collection.
This rare original Spanish-American War Navy Yard NY Mark II Signal Pistol-flare gun is not a “firearm” under US law and needs no FFL to transfer or own; this WW-2 era flare gun is obsolete; its spare parts and flares are no longer made.
We have a few more WW1 and WW2 era flare guns coming up for sale, plus several scarce WW2 fighting daggers and WW1 trench knives available for sale immediately – please take a look in our Militaria section. This WW2 USN M5 Signal Pistol/flare gun has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, 100% original condition; these are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the lot 😉
