Description

Sheffield England Joseph Rodgers hunting knife, ebony wood handle; early 1900th Edwardian era. Original tubular leather sheath included; rare type in great overall condition.

Scarce Edwardian era hunting knife manufactured circa 1901-1910 by the famous “Cutlers to their Majesties” Joseph Rodgers & Sons in Sheffield, England.  Joseph Rodgers & Sons had been one of the best makers of knives, bayonets, swords, and various cutlery in the British Empire since 1682; sadly, they are no longer in business. This is a very well made – excellent overall quality and balance; the blade is intact; hard-to find original tubular leather sheath is included. The handle is finely carved exotic African ebony wood with nickel-silver bolster. Ricasso is stamped J. RODGERS & SONS / 6. NORFOLK STREET / SHEFFIELD. ENGLAND on one side, J. Rodgers’ famous ✱ ✢ trademark (a star and the Maltese cross) on the other. This trademark was first used as early as 1682.

The blade has been lightly re-sharpened – it’s razor-sharp still; the very end of the tip is slightly nicked (an easy fix). No edge nicks or dings on the spine – rare this nice. Ebony wood handle with silver-nickel pins and bolster is excellent and problem-free. No cracks, chips, or missing parts; the handle is solid with no play.

The knife is about 8-7/8″ / 22.5 cm; the blade is about 4-3/8″ / 11.2 cm long; the knife has an excellent grip and sits quite nicely in the hand. Original tubular brown leather sheath in very good overall condition, considering the age. The leather is a bit dry, but all original stitching and the bel loop are intact. Original intact leather sheaths of this period are VERY hard to find nowadays – a great find! This scarce Edwardian era Sheffield England Joseph Rodgers hunting knife will be a great addition to any collection  – don’t miss your chance!
