Original Nicholas II era (1894-1917) commemorative “Patriotic War” of 1812 medal struck in 1912. The medal was instituted by Nicholas II as the Russian campaign against Napoleon’s armies centennial commemorative. Struck at the St. Petersburg mint; 442,000 medals were awarded in total. The medal was awarded to all ranks of the military personnel who took part in the military parades and official ceremonies, civilians participating in these events, as well as the St. Petersburg mint employees involved in the medals’ production. About 28.3 mm in diameter or 33.5 mm top to bottom, about 13.8 gm. Not cleaned with original patina; a couple of minor contact marks on the rim are noted for accuracy. This medal has not been cleaned or tempered with in any way; these are the actual photos.
