Russia 1613-1913 silver Rouble Type I – scarce earlier issue, 1-yr type commemorative, St. Petersburg mint. Nice VF
Original Nicholas II era (1894-1917) commemorative Rouble issued in 1913 to mark the 300-year anniversary of the ruling Romanov’s dynasty. Struck at the St. Petersburg mint, mint master Victor Smirnov (BC on the rim). This is an early Type 1 struck in high-relief; relatively few Type I specimens were made before the original dies cracked. Type 1 is scarce as most of the commemorative 1913 Roubles were struck in low relief (Type II) to prevent cracking of the last die set. The coin is about 34 mm in diameter, 20 grams. VF condition specimen with good eye appeal; typical wear on elevated fields is noted for accuracy; looks like an old cleaning; these are the actual photos.
