Description

Vietnam War era handmade Kassel fighting knife, original “quiet draw” leather sheath with honing stone; attributed to Cpt. Goodman. Made in Ft. Myers, FL in the 1960th; rare type

Rare Vietnam War era “private purchase” fighting knife/survival knife made by J.W. Kassel of Ft. Myers, FL in the 1960th. This in an excellent quality-made fighter with a perfect balance and blade-to-handle ratio. The equally well-made leather scabbard with a honing stone in a front pocket is stamped CPT. GOODMAN on the hanger. This is possibly one-of-a kind custom fighter made as a special order for someone about to be shipped-out. Looks like the overall design is heavily influenced by Randall and SOG fighters but Kassel’s sheath is what really sets it apart from rest of the fighting knives of that era. The scabbard was designed to be “silent” when you need to be as quiet as possible – there are no snaps that might give a “popping” sound when opened. Also, the sheath is has no shiny rivets which might reflecting a light; the only two metal pieces are made of corrosion-resistant brass.

This fighter is about 11-1/2″ / 29.2 cm overall; a well-honed clip-point blade is about 6-3/4″ / 17.2 cm long. The blade has been lightly sharpened; it is razor-sharp still; the tip is intact. Stacked brown micarta washers and solid bronze double-guard & pommel handle; all parts are tight; the handle is solid with no play. The knife is completely unmarked. Original model SH1 leather sheath with the front pocket containing a honing stone is in excellent condition, considering the age. The leather is still soft and supple; all original stitching; the keeper is intact.

This rare Vietnam War era handmade Kassel fighting knife is in excellent overall conditions; don’t miss your chance to add it to your collection! Not cleaned or tampered with in any way, 100% original “as is” condition; spent brass is not included with the knife 😉  I have more Vietnam War era and WW2 era knives and bayonets, as well as several scarce WW1 and WW2 American and European fighting daggers, bayonets and trench knives available for sale – please take a look in the Militaria section.
