Korean War Imperial M5 bayonet for M1 Garand rifle, PWH M8A1 composition scabbard; great overall condition, considering the age. FREE EXPEDITED SHIPPING WITHIN THE U.S. FOR THIS ITEM.

Original Korean War era M5 bayonet manufactured by Imperial Cutlery Co in Providence, RI. Imperial filed for the M5 bayonet design patent in the end of 1952 and was awarded a DOD contract for the M5 manufacture in the summer of 1953. During the Vietnam War Imperial had manufactured a later M5A1 model from 1967 to 1976. The M5 / M5A1 bayonet was the first US battle rifle bayonet that was made almost entirely of cold-stamped parts, which greatly reduced costs and simplified manufacturing.

This specimen is in scarce slightly used condition with original finish and factory edge. This M5 is about 11-1/4″ / 28.5 cm overall; parkerized blade is about 6-1/2″ / 16.5 cm long. The edge is fairly sharp still; the very end of the tip is slightly nicked. Ricasso is unmarked as intended; the guard is stamped U.S. M5 on one side, IMPERIAL the other with a small Defense Acceptance Stamp (DAS) “eagle” stamp near the edge. Black plastic handle grips are tight and in near-perfect condition; bayonet release mechanism is excellent and 100% functional; all handle parts are solid with no play. Original M8A1 composition scabbard was made by Pennsylvania Working Home for the Blind (PWH stamp on the throat). The scabbard is in great condition overall; unpainted “gun-gray” steel throat is stamped USM8A1 / PWH on the front side; number 122 is painted on the back side. No spots or stains on the web hanger or oxidation around brass snaps and rivets; all parts are intact.

This original Korean War Imperial M5 bayonet is in very good shape overall. These are the actual photos; Garand clips are not included with the bayonet ? I have a few more US-made bayonets, as well as some scarce WW1 and WW2 era fighting daggers and trench knives made in the US, Great Britain, France, Germany, and other countries available for sale – please take a look in the Militaria section.
