John Russell Green River Works hunting knife, hard-to-find original leather sheath included. Rare mid-1800th antique Hunter in great overall condition, considering the age.
Antique J. Russell Manufacturing & Co. Green River Works Hunting Bowie made in the US in the mid-1800th. John Russell Manufacturing Company was originally established in 1834 on the Green River by Deerfield, Massachusetts. It’s one of the oldest American cutlery manufacturers which supplied hunting, fishing and trade knives to half-the-country during the American Great Expansion era and the American Civil War – this knife is a classic Americana, a real piece of US history.
This knife is used but it’s in better-than-average condition for the type with hard-to-find original leather sheath included. This antique Bowie is about 10-3/4″ / 27.3 cm overall; spear-point blade is about 6-1/2” / 16.5 cm. Spear-point blade has been re-sharpened; the edge is very sharp still, the tip is intact. This is a solid full-tang construction knife with genuine stag handle scales on brass pins and a solid bronze double-guard. There is a silver inlay on one of the stag scales; all parts are tight with no play; a few small chips and cracks on the stag are noted for accuracy; nothing major. Hard-to-find original leather sheath is in great overall condition. Original stitching and belt hanger are intact; the sheath fits the blade perfectly.
