Rare vintage issue of the famous WW2 era Clandestine Operations sleeve dagger, aka the Commando Nail. The original World War 2 era spike dagger what was used by the OSS operatives and British commandos is illustrated on page 139 in the KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert an author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see the book’s page scan in the photos).
This modern-day “commando nail” was manufactured in the late 1970th – early 1980th by H.G. Long & Company in Sheffield, Great Britain. HG Long is one of the oldest British cutlery firms; the company was established in 1846. The dagger is about 7-1/8″ / 18 cm overall; the blade is about 3-1/2″ / 9 cm long. The dagger was never used or carried; the set includes the dagger, clandestine-carry sleeve leather scabbard, and a concealed tie-down leather belt. The set comes in the Ek Commando Knives black box; I’m not sure if it’s original to the knife.
This rare HG Long Sheffield Clandestine Operations sleeve dagger / WW2 Commando Nail has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way. It is in 100% original “as made” condition; these are the actual photos. These are the actual photos. I have a few more vintage European knives, as well as WW2 era combat knives and bayonets, scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives from other countries available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
