Vintage and long-discontinued J.A. Henckels model 944 Bison Hunter-Skinner in rare unused condition; hand-finished circa 1960th-1970th at the Henckles factory in Solingen, Germany; original and correct-model leather sheath included. I have a number of vintage European and American-made collectible knives in the store, please take a look at the store’s American Blades section.
This is an excellent quality integral design Bison model Hunter-Skinner with a beefy blade and the top-of-the-line India sambar stag handle scales option. The entire knife was machine-cut from a solid chunk of steel and hot-tempered to a superior edge. This was a VERY labor-intensive process, this model must have cost a fortune in man-hours to complete, no wonder this type was discontinued ages ago. The knife is about 9-3/4″ / 25 cm overall; high-carbon blade is about 5-1/8″ / 13 cm. The blade has not been re-sharpened; original factory edge is razor-sharp; the tip is intact. Expertly fitted “finger grooved” sambar stag scales with bronze pins handle; all parts are tight with no play. No cracks or chips on the stag, the handle is in excellent overall condition. Original MADE IN GERMANY leather sheath included, the leather is soft and supple still; some minor scuff marks and age-related spots are noted for accuracy; the sheath is in great shape overall.
Very attractive and scarce HENCKELS Germany 944 Bison integral Hunter-Skinner knife with exotic India stag handle scales – this type is getting harder and harder to find these days, especially in better grades; this knife will a great addition to any collection. Please don’t forget to check out our Militaria section for other WW1 and WW2 era combat knives, including German WW1 era trench knives, vintage USAF WW2 Pilot Knives and a couple of rare WW2 “OSS Drop” knives we offer for sale.
