Description
Germany WW2 1937 K98 bayonet made by Jetter & Scheerer, Tuttlingen (J. Sch.) with early wood grips, original metal scabbard, leather frog. Scarce pre-war type by a rare maker; great overall condition, considering the age.
Original WW2 era German bayonet for “Karabiner 98K” Mauser bolt-action rifle. Manufactured in 1937 by Jetter & Scheerer, Tuttlingen – this company was a respected surgical instrument maker before the Nazis took over Germany; a hard-to-find K98 manufacturer. The blade is marked with number 37 on the spine at the base. This is one of the scarce high-quality pre-war production specimens. Jetter & Scheerer had always made quality products, this definitely shows in the overall quality of this bayonet.
The bayonet is slightly used but it is in better-than-average condition for the type; a few light contact marks on the pommel are noted for accuracy. Ricasso is sharply stamped J. Sch. on one side and serial number 5361/b on the other. The bayonet is about 15-1/8” / 38.4 cm overall; the blade is about 9-7/8″ / 25 cm long. The blade has retained about 90% of its original bluing. Original pre-war wood grips are in great condition with no cracks or chips. The bayonet’s release button is in perfect working order. The Waffenamt stamp on the bayonet’s pommel near the release button is the old-fashioned “eagle” W155.
The bayonet comes with original steel scabbard with no stamp on the throat. The scabbard is in very good overall condition with no dents; light surface rust on the back side but no pitting; about 50% of the original bluing remaining. Original leather frog is stamped 2P5 with another circular stamp on the back (I can’t read it); the leather is soft and supple still. After about 85 years, this Germany WW2 1937 K98 bayonet and its original scabbard are in 100% serviceable condition still. Don’t miss your chance to add it to your collection!
