Rare early WW1 era German commemorative by the famous German engraver Friedrich Wilhelm Eue; struck in Berlin. The medal struck in 1915 commemorating the sinking of 3 British cruisers HMS Hogue, Cressy and Aboukir by the German U-boat U-9 under the command of Captain Otto Weddigen (Zetzmann # 6017). An attractive AU specimen with original dark-gray patina.  The medal is about 34 mm in diameter; 18.1 grams; the rim is marked SILBER 990. A scarce early WW1 commemorative medal in great overall condition – a great find!
