France WW1 M1886 Lebel bayonet – “The French Needle” aka “Rosalie” with uncut spike blade and original metal scabbard. An attractive specimen in great overall condition, considering the age.
French M1886/91/16 Lebel spike bayonet for the Lebel Model 1886 rifle used by the French military during WW1 and in early WW2. The M1886 was affectionally called “Rosalie” by the French. The Germans respected it and feared its deadly spike; they called it “The French Needle”; it was a simple and deadly effective design. This specimen comes with the original tubular metal scabbard in excellent condition. This is the pre-war manufacture “long” bayonet with the original uncut blade at 20-1/2″ / 52 cm; the bayonet is about 25″ / 63.5 cm overall. The bayonet is only slightly used; it is in much better than average condition for the type – no dings or contact marks on the handle or muzzle ring; the tip is intact. The pommel and muzzle ring are in excellent shape; handle parts are tight; German silver alloy handle is clean and problem-free. Bayonet release mechanism is in perfect working order; the spring is tight. Original all-metal scabbard is in great condition without typical dings or nicks; there is no frog.
