Classic British FS “Fairbairn Sykes” fighting dagger with razor-sharp dual-edge blade and original metal-tipped leather scabbard. An official British military issue made in Sheffield, England by the famous John Nowill & Sons. The dagger is appropriately marked with the government arsenal “broad arrow” acceptance stamp on the guard. This “3rd pattern FS” has remained pretty much unchanged since mid-WW2 – this dagger type is illustrated on page 133 of the KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert an author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see the book’s page scan attached). Originally designed as the “commando dagger” for the elite British special-ops forces, these “FS” fighting knives became super-popular with the British and American servicemen stationed in the UK during WW2. After the war the FS dagger became a classic combat knife; it remained in service in some countries to this day.

This dagger is in scarce unused condition; this type is hard-to-find this nice. Original factory edge is razor-sharp; needle-like tip is intact; all-original bluing on the blade and black finish on the handle. Grooved cast metal handle with the screw-on pommel lug nut is marked with the classic John Nowill & Sons’ crossed keys logo is near the guard. No dings or contact marks on the handle; all parts are solid with no play. The dagger is about 11-1/2″ / 29.8 cm overall; blued blade is about 6-7/8″ / 17.5 cm. Original “sew-on” black leather scabbard is unused as well.

This set is in excellent coverall condition – scarce this nice.
