British WW2 fighting knife made with William Rodgers, Sheffield blade & re-purposed Rogers Bros sterling silver handle, original leather sheath. Rare type in great condition, considering the age. FREE USPS PRIORITY MAIL SHIPPING WITHIN THE U.S. FOR THIS ITEM.
Rare WW2 era British “home front”-made fighting knife type manufactured in the UK circa 1939-1943. Due to the war-time shortages of strategic materials, The British had to re-use suitable old cutlery as fighting blades and old cutlery handles as the “usual” pre-war materials like bronze and aluminum were no longer available. A similar “silver tableware handle” fighting dagger type is illustrated on page 281 of THE MILITARY KNIFE AND BAYONET book by Homer M. Brett – a well-established expert an author of several books on the subject of military edged weapons (see the book’s page scan attached).
The blade was taken from an antique William Rodgers hunting Bowie; the handle was re-purposed from am even older Rogers Bros sterling silver tableware piece (the handle is marked 1847 ROGERS BROS © on the side). This interesting fighter is only slightly used; it is in much better than average condition for the type. Blued clip-point blade has been gently re-sharpened; the edge is very sharp still; the tip is intact. Ricasso is sharply marked WILLIAM RODGERS / SHEFFIELD, ENGLAND; the base of the blade is engraved 199 on the edge. German silver guard is securely soldiered in its place; all handle parts are tight; all parts are solid with no play. This fighter is about 9-1/8″ / 23 cm overall; the blade is about 5-1/8″ / 13 cm. The blade has a nice original light-gray patina throughout; lit has not been cleaned or harshly re-sharpened. Original WW2 era leather sheath is in great overall condition, considering the age. The leather is soft and supple; belt hanger is stamped MADE IN ENGLAND on the front side. Some minor stitching loss near the tip is noted for accuracy.
This original British WW2 fighting knife was part of the diverse collection of militaria items that I’ve recently purchased spanning from WW1 to Vietnam War. This personal collection contains many interesting items, some are unique, but there is just too much work to list it all at the same time. Please check out my site periodically for new arrivals; I’ll be listing more items in the next few weeks.
This rare British WW2 fighting knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it is in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; Lee-Enfield clips are not included with the knife 😉 I have a few more British, Commonwealth, and American WW2 era combat knives and bayonets, as well as several scarce WW1 fighting daggers and trench knives from other countries available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
