I have one very cool-looking and quite rare early Benchmade automatic made for the US military – the short-lived sterile (unmarked) model 9000 AFO (Armed Forces Only) switchblade. Reportedly, these were issued in small numbers at Fort Bragg in the early 1990s. According to mil specs, Benchmade manufactured this type without a pocket clip and no safety as these were carried in a pouch and were meant to be deployed as soon as they were out of that pouch. This specimen is in rare unused condition, it can’t get any better than that. I have another rare military automatic available for sale – the famous The Black Knife US-made switchblade used by the USN SEAL teams during the First Persian Golf War; please take a look.
Benchmade 9000 AFO knife is scarce to begin with, but it is almost impossible to find in unused condition, as most issued knives were used in the field as intended. This type is VERY hard-to-find this nice. The knife is about 8-3/8″ / 21.3 cm overall fully opened; partially serrated drop point blade is about 3-1/2” / 9 cm long. Unmarked blade is bead-blasted for a non-reflective finish. The blade is either ATS34 or 154CM, depending on the sources; it is hardened to a respectable 59-61 Rc. It has not re-sharpened; original factory edge is razor-sharp; the tip is intact. The spring is tight and works as intended; blade lock is in perfect working order. The knife is completely unmarked and without a pocket clip or safety, as it was intended by the manufacturer and in accordance to the specs. Black anodized aluminum alloy handle is in excellent condition as well; all parts are tight with no play. This Benchmade 9000 AFO knife type is VERY hard to find nowadays, especially in such a beautiful condition. Don’t miss your chance to add this rare Benchmade 9000 AFO knife to your collection!
