Barry Dowson California Dagger boot knife, early handmade full-tang construction fighter with toned L-6 steel blade. White micarta handle with mosaic pins; fine filework on the spine, original “belt stud” leather sheath; rare knife in scarce UNUSED CONDITION.
Rare vintage Barry Dawson early handmade California Dagger model 109 boot knife made in the US in the late 1980th – early 1990th. The dagger is in scarce unused condition; the original edge is razor-sharp; the tip is intact. This is a solid full-tang construction dagger made of the super-tough L-6 steel typically used for the “band type” or circular saw blades utilized in most lumber mills. This high-carbon steel is not easy to work with and it’s pretty hard to find in any other form. The L-6 hardens in oil to a respectable RC 57-58 and it performs extremely well for all cutting and slicing tasks, but as with most high-carbon steels, it may rust easily. Over time the L-6 alloy tends to turn to a pretty cool-looking metallic “ash-gray” color; giving this dagger an extra “badass” look.
The dagger is about 9-1/2″ / 24.2 cm overall; the spear-point blade with a very attractive hamon line is about 5-1/2” / 14 cm. Some very nice “grapevine” filework on the spine; an integral guard is notched for an added control. The blade is etched DAWSON / U.S.A. on one siled, L-6 on the other. White micarta with mosaic pins handle; all handle parts are tight with no play. The original “cowboy style” belt stud leather sheath is in unused condition as well; the leather is soft and supple. Original Barry Dawson’s handmade knives are VERY hard to find in any shape or form nowadays; don’t miss your chance to add this extra-fine California Dagger to your collection!
