Description
Original WW2 era 6-inch blade fighting knife manufactured early in the war by PAL Cutlery Co. in rare unused condition. In 1940 PAL Cutlery has purchased the cutlery division of Remington Arms and moved old Remington equipment and knife stock to Holyoke, MA. Not to miss a good business opportunity, PAL had re-purposed old Remington blades as “private purchase” fighting knives for the American GIs and began manufacturing knives using the left-over stock parts with the Remington emblem (RH stands for Remington Hunter). This exact type is illustrated on page 201 in KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W. Silvey – a well-established expert an author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see the pages’ photos attached).
This fighting knife is about 11″ / 28 cm overall; the blade is about 6-1/8″ / 15.5 cm long. Original edge is very sharp; the tip is intact; a few minor surface hairlines on the blade are noted for accuracy. Stacked leather washers handle with black fiber spacers on ends; solid aluminum pommel and a steel handguard; the handle is tight. Ricasso is faintly stamped PAL RH-36 MADE IN U.S.A. on one side. Original leather scabbard is in excellent condition, considering the age – the leather is soft and supple; all original stitching and early-type “blued” rivets are intact; the keeper is tight. This scabbard is in 100% serviceable condition still.
This is not a particularly rare WW2 knife but this type is VERY hard to find is such a nice shape since most of these fighting knives were used in the field as intended. This WW2 PAL RH36 fighting knife and its original leather scabbard have not been cleaned or tampered with in any way. This original WW2 era fighter is in 100% original “as is” condition; these are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the knife 😉 I have several scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives available for sale – please take a look in the store’s Militaria section.
