Description
Rare WW2 era “OSS operative” type concealed-carry fighting dagger/boot knife with a slim dual-edge blade and an expertly finished leather cord wrapped handle with a small brown bakelite “crown ball” for the pommel. The dagger is completely unmarked; similar types were issued to the OSS operatives. Also, this type of boot knives/fighting daggers were very popular in the UK during the war; many differents types were manufactured in the UK and were available for private purchase to the British and American servicemen stationed in the UK during WW2. Similar types are illustrated on pages 136 – 137 of KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey. Mr. Silvey is a well-established expert author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons.
This fighting knife seems to be factory-made – the level of quality and finishes is way above what you would typically see in “theater knives”. The dagger is as handsome as it is practical; the balance and fit are excellent. The handle provides a very comfortable grip no matter the hold; thanks to the slim design it could even be used as a dagger with the handle in the closed fist. Al parts are solid and tight; lether wrap is undamaged; bronze ring shows an original patina. The handle was originally painted black; about 50% of the original finish remaining. The dagger is completely unmarked. The dagger is about 9-1/4″ / 23.5 cm overall; the blade is about 5-3/8″ / 13.7 cm long. The blade’s dual-edge blade is razor-sharp still, no typical edge nicks on the blade or dings on the pommel; the tip is intact. This rare WW2 covert Agent fighting dagger / boot knife is in excellent overall condition, considering the age; you will not be disappointed!
This small, but very attractive WW2 covert Agent dagger with a lot of character hasn’t been cleaned or tampered with in any way; it is in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the lot 😉
