WW2 American Schrade paratrooper knife, rare early jigged bone handle type in great overall condition, considering the age; hard-to-find this nice. FREE EXPEDITED SHIPPING WITHIN THE U.S. FOR THIS ITEM.
Rare early production “large-size” model of the famous WW2 era US Paratrooper Switchblade Knife; manufactured early in the war by Schrade Cutlery in upstate New York. This is an early-model “large” folder with short-lived sabre-clip point blade, jigged bone handle scales and with nickel-silver pins – one of the hardest to find standard-issue American WW2 knives. Rare early-war model; a similar type is illustrated on pages 72-72 of POCKET KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY book published in 2002 by Michael W. Silvey – a well-established expert on the subject of the US military edged weapons (see the book’s scan attached).
The knife is used, but it is in much better than average condition for this type. The knife is about 5″ / 12.7 cm overall when closed; sabre-clip point blade is about 3-5/8” / 9.3 cm long. The blade has been professionally cleaned and polished; no nicks on the edge; the tip is intact. The blade has a tiny bit of a play when opened, but nothing serious. The edge is razor-sharp still; the spring is nice and tight and works as intended. The blade lock is in perfect working order. The tang is stamped SCHRADE / CUT. CO. / WALDEN, N.Y. on one side and U.S. patent numbers and dates on the other. Original jigged bone handle scales are simply beautiful with very attractive “dark amber” toning; looks like a small chip on one side has been professionally repaired. Nickel-silver blade lock, push-button and pins; the bolsters are steel. All handle parts are tight with no play.
