Description

WW2 1944 New Guinea fighting knife made from Australian Commando blade, original leather scabbard. A unique one-of a kind WWII American or Australian Fighter in great overall condition, considering the age.

Original WW2 era American or Australian fighting knife hand-engraved NEW GUINEA 1944 on the pommel. The WW2 New Guinea campaign was one of the bloodiest engagements in the Pacific theater where the American and Australian troops fought against the Japanese side-by-side. The fighting in New Guinea lasted 3.5 years and resulted in over 42,000 Allied and 350,00 Japanese casualties.

This interesting fighter was made from the WW2 era Australian Commando Knife blade with the handle made from whatever materials were available at hand. The overall quality is actually pretty high; the fit and balance are great; this is one hell of a practical sidearm. Solid aluminum pommel seems to be filed to shape by hand and was expertly fitted and engraved – no small feat in the rudimentary field conditions. This interesting fighting knife is about 10-1/4″ / 26 cm overall; the blade is about 5-3/4″ / 14.7 cm; the blade is razor- sharp still; the tip is a bit rounded. Original WW2 era leather scabbard looks very much American-made; it is in great shape, considering the age. The keeper is nice and tight; all of the original stitching and rivets are intact. The leather is free of the jungle rot; it is in great overall condition.

This interesting and certainly one-of-a kind American or Australian WW2 1944 New Guinea fighting knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way; it is in 100% original “as is” condition; these are the actual photos. I have more WW2 Australian, New Zealand, and American fighting knives, as well as several scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers, bayonets and trench knives available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
