Description
Very interesting “cadet” bayonet originally made for the Belgium breech-loading rifle. These “children rifles” (complete with bayonets) were purchased by Francis Bannerman at the turn of the 19th century and were sold through his mail-0rder catalogs advertised as “cadet rifles” suitable for training and rifle drills at military schools. This type is pictured on page 11 of Bannerman’s 1903 catalog – see the photos attached. Unlike the domestically-manufactured and completely useless cast iron “cadet bayonets” which Bannerman was selling as well, this specimen is actually cold-forged in Europe from quality steel and meant to be used as intended. The bayonet is stamped with a large number 2 and serial number 8531 in smaller-size numerals on the top side. The socket is intact with no damage; the blade is slightly bent in the middle; the tip is intact. The bayonet is about 9-3/8” / 24 cm overall; the blade is about 8” / 20.2 cm long. There is no scabbard.
This Vintage 1800th Cadet Rifle socket bayonet has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way; it is in 100% original “as is” condition; these are the actual photos. We have more American bayonets, fighting knives, as well as several scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers, bayonets and trench knives available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
