Description
An interesting and certainly one of a kind WW2 era fighting knife with a solid aluminum handle and a decent-size 6.9″ blade. This is a so-called “theater knife” – it was made “in the operations theater” from whatever materials were available at hand. Similar types are illustrated in THEATER MADE MILITARY KNIVES OF WORLD WAR II book by Bill and Debbie Wright. The knife comes with original hand-made leather scabbard in very condition marked DILL / 1945 on the back.
This is a well-made and practical fighter with a great balance and a perfect fit. The entire handle is solid cast aluminum; the handle is tight; all parts are solid with no play. High-carbon tool-grade steel blade was probably made from a repurposed saw or a large butcher knife. This interesting fighter is about 11-1/2″ / 29.2 cm overall; the blade is about 6-7/8″ / 17.5 cm. The edge is razor-sharp still; the tip is intact. The scabbard is in great condition; the leather is soft and supple still; all original leather stitching is intact. This scabbard is in excellent shape overall, considering the age; it’s 100% serviceable still.
This interesting and certainly one-of-a kind USA WW2 theater fighting knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way; it is in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; Garand clips are not included with the knife 😉 I have more WW2 era American, British, Australian, New Zealand, and German fighting knives, as well as several scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers, bayonets and trench knives available for sale – please take a look in the Militaria section.
