USA WW1 M1905 bayonet made by Springfield Armory (SA) in 1918; original canvas-covered scabbard included. Scarce type in excellent overall condition; hard-to-find this nice.
Original WW1 era M1905 bayonet manufactured in 1918 by the famous Springfield Armory (SA) in Springfield, MA, USA. This is a scarce uncut 16″-blade specimen with canvas-covered wood scabbard in excellent overall condition, considering the age. The uncut WW1 era manufacture M1905’s are scarce in general – many were lost during WW1 and in earlier WW2 years surviving specimens were mostly cut-down and re-furbished as the “short pattern” bayonets often referred to as M1942. Uncut WW1 era M1905s are hard to come by nowadays, especially in better grades.
This is a well-made bayonet with crisp lines and a well-defined edge; ricasso is sharply stamped SA / “flaming bomb”/ 1918 on one side, US / 877333 serial No. on the other. The bayonet is only slightly used; the blade is very sharp still; the tip is intact – it’s in better-than-average condition for the type. No typical ding marks on the spine; the muzzle ring and the pommel are in excellent overall condition with no rust or contact marks. Original walnut handle grips are in great shape with no damage; all handle parts are tight. The scabbard/bayonet release mechanism is excellent and 100% functional. The bayonet is about 20-1/2″ / 52 cm overall; the blade is about 16″ / 40.8 cm. Original canvas-covered wood and steel throat scabbard is in great condition as well. It’s unmarked, probably Rock Island Arsenal-manufactured. The back side is faintly signed Ed Meyers. Overall, this USA WW1 M1905 bayonet is in very much serviceable condition still. A desirable and highly collectible type; this type is rare this nice and complete.
This original USA WW1 M1905 bayonet has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it is in 100% original “as is” condition.
