Excellent quality model 6BD Hunter-Skinner knife handmade by the famous RUDY H. RUANA (1903-1986) of Boner, Montana; scarce unused condition. A superb quality Skinner handmade by the master himself in the 1970th-1980th. Ruana Knives was and still is one of the best makers of hunting knives in the US since the early 1940th.
This beauty is about 8-1/4″ / 21 cm overall; the blade is about 4″ / 10.2 cm. High-carbon steel blade is hammer-forged, heat treated, and oil quenched to provide a superior edge for years to come; original edge is razor-sharp, the tip is intact. Cast aluminum handle with stag scales on hand-hammered aluminum pins; the handle is tight. One side is stamped RUANA / BONNER / MONTANA. Cast aluminum handle with elk stag scales – Rudy Ruana’s favorite handle materials; all handle parts are tight. Rudy developed his own method of casting aluminum handles directly on the semi-finished blade, which eliminated rust-prone gaps between the handle and the blade and produced a solid, almost-indestructible knife.
The knife comes with a vintage original top-flap RUANA-marked thick leather sheath. The sheath still has the original $150 price sticker on the back – that was a lot of money 50 years ago! The sheath is of the highest quality; all stitching and rivets are intact; the leather is still soft and supple; minor oxidation around copper rivets is noted for accuracy (cleanable).
