Description
WW2 British MK2 military machete made by JJB, dated 1945, huge 14.5-inch blade, original 1944 scabbard, excellent overall condition, considering the age.
Huge WW2 era date-stamped 1945 British MK2 military machete with original scabbard dated 1944. Manufactured circa during the war by J&J Beal Ltd. (marked JJB on the blade) in Sheffield, England. This exact type is illustrated on page 109 of the BRITISH AND COMMONWEALTH MILITARY KNIVES book by Ron Flook – a major research project on the subject of British military edged weapons. These handy machetes were popular with the troops – see an identical scabbard attached to the side of the all-terrain SAS vehicle somewhere in the Northen Africa desert after a raid behind enemy lines.
This machete is 20-1/8″ / 51 cm overall; the blade is about 14-3/4″ / 37.5 cm. Original black grips are vulcanized fiber – marked with the broad arrow / 8″ inspection mark on one side. The grips are excellent with no cracks or chips; the handle is tight. The blade has been lightly re-sharpened; it is razor-sharp still; the tip is intact. The blade is stamped on one side JJB / 1945 / “broad arrow” on one side. The original painted fiber-and-leather scabbard was made in 1944. It is appropriately inspection-stamped and dated 1944 on the leather hanger. The scabbard is in very excellent overall condition, considering the age; the leather is not too dry; the keeper and all rivets are intact. Overall, this original WW2 British MK2 military machete is in 100% serviceable condition still. This type is scarce this nice and well-reserved – don’t miss your chance to add it to your collection!
This original WW2 British MK2 military machete has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it is in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos. I have a few more WW2 era machetes, several WW2 fighting knives/bayonets, as well as some scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives available for sale – please take a look in the store’s Militaria section.
