Germany WW1 Clemen Jung fighting knife, original metal scabbard. Rare WW-I era Kampfmesser (combat knife) type in great  overall condition, considering the age. FREE EXPEDITED SHIPPING WITHIN THE US FOR THIS ITEM.

Rare German WW1 era Kampfmesser (Combat Knife in German) with original metal scabbard; manufactured circa circa 1917-1918 by Clemen & Jung  Waffenfabrik in Solingen, Germany (letter “Z on the crowned shield” logo on ricasso). This exact type is illustrated on page 106 in the excellent French reference book French Knives During World War One by Christian Mary (see the book’s scan in the photos). These “trench daggers” were popular with the German infantrymen as they provided to be much handier in the close-quarters fighting than the standard-issue rifle Mauser bayonets. This Kampfmesser fighting knife type s was a simple, but practical and deadly sidearm in the close-quarters combat.

This fighting knife is used, but it is better-than-average condition for the type as most of these fighters were used in the field as intended and very few survived the war in decent condition. The blade is in great shape with no pitting, dings or edge nicks on the blade; needle-like tip is intact; one small edge bump near the base is noted for accuracy. “Z on the crowned shield” logo stamp on ricasso is sharp and clear; the other side is stamped with the Imperial crown arsenal acceptance mark. The knife is about 10-1/2” / 26.8 cm overall; the blade is about 5-1/2” / 14 cm. Not cleaned; original leather washer is still on the blade; it is very sharp still; the tip is intact. Original hardwood handle scales on 3 iron pins are intact as well; no chips or cracks. A solid full-tang construction with a simple iron double-guard; all handle parts are tight with no play. Original metal scabbard is in very good condition and holds the blade tight; original leather “loop hanger” part is MlA.
