Post-WW1 German “hardship years” era 50 Million Marks notgeld coin issued by Westphalia state in 1923. “Notgeld” literally means “emergency money”; many German states and cities had to issue this type of large-denomination substitute “coins” and paper notgeld bills to compensate for the shortage of regular coins and banknotes during post-WW1 hyper-inflation years. The National Bank simply could not print the sufficient amount of currency fast enough.
This is a very attractive specimen in rare Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Most of the original mint luster is intact; the coin is about 38 mm in diameter; about 5.6 grams; plain rim; struck in aluminum alloy.
