Germany Schleswig-Holstein Kiel 1847 bronze medal struck to commemorate the 11th meeting of German Farmers and Foresters. Rare type in excellent overall condition, original chocolate-brown patina.
GERMAN STATES, Schleswig-Holsteinm city of Kiel struck bronze medal issued for the United Landowners of Schleswig-Holstein at the 11th Meeting of the German Farmers and Foresters. A very attractive specimen with highly-detailed harbor view with tall ships in central rectangle. “Kiel am Schonen Ostseestrande In dem treuen holstenlande” on large ribbon above and “der sechste September” on large ribbon below / nine lines of Gothic text with date in roman numerals below, all inside a wreath of oak and barley with two crests below and LOOS D. and SCHILLING F. at bottom in small letters. This type is scarce in general and rare this nice.
The medal is about 51 mm in diameter; about 61.8 grams, The medal is in excellent overall condition – no typical rim nicks, dings, or scratches; one tine oxidation spot on obverse at 4 o’clock is noted for accuracy. Original finish with very attractive chocolate-brown patina with purple overtones; not cleaned. This specimen came out of an old collection assembled several decades ago. This rare Germany Schleswig-Holstein Kiel 1847 bronze medal will be a welcome addition to any collection.
