A scarce pre-WW1 German States silver “shooting medal” issued as the commemorative for the 17th annual shooting competition in Hesse-Darmstadt – a rare type – typically just a few dozen were struck. About 39.25-mm diameter medal; the weight is 27.5 grams, 4.45 mm thick; plain rim. Rare Almost Uncirculated condition with a gorgeous goldish-gray patina. No typical rim nicks, dings, or scratches; one small rim abrasion at 10 o’clock is noted for accuracy -see photos.
