Hard-to-find airship type medallion issued in the early days of these huge rigid airships. This is the birthdate commemorative bronze plaque dedicated to the famous airship designer Graf Ferdinand Von Zeppelin. The plaque was designed and struck circa 1908 by Mayer & Wilhelm in Stuttgart, German Empire (Kaiser 278). This unusual piece was consists of the original bronze plaque mounted on a rectangular marble base which has the reverse side grounded flat. The bronze part has not been cleaned with original dark-brown patina throughout; few minor contact marks are noted for accuracy/ The marble is intact with no cracks or repairs; all parts are solid with no play. The stone part is about 83 mm by 65 mm and 20 mm thick. The bronze plaque is is about 50 mm by 37 mm; total weight is about 229 gram.
