Scarce large WW2 era model M346 Marlin Spike sailor’s knife manufactured for the Canadian military by Case Cutlery in Bradford, PA, USA. During WW2 from 1942 to 1945 Case Cutlery made a relatively small quantity of these for the Canadian Navy. Designated by the Ordnance Stores department as “Knife, Clasp, with Marlin Spike and Tin Opener”, this specimen looks pretty much like the early British counterparts, except that the American-made M346 knives were of much better quality.  This type is illustrated on pages 191-192 of BRITISH AND COMMONWEALTH MILITARY KNIVES book Ron Flook – a well-established expert on this subject. Attached is a copy of the WW2 era photo with the Canadian sniper scout in a position somewhere in Normandy in the summer of 1944. The man has an identical M346 “marlin spike folder” hanging off his belt (original photo is not included with the knife).

This specimen is rare practically unused – this type is VERY rare this nice as most were used in the filed as intended. This large folder is about 5″ / 12.7 cm closed; heavy-duty marlin spike is about 3-7/8” / 10 cm long; needle-like tip in intact; the spike is nice and tight with no play. Sheepsfoot blade is about 3-1/2″ / 9 cm long; original factory edge is razor-sharp; the tip is intact. All blades open and close with a sharp snap.  The tin opener blade is in excellent condition as well; it looks unused. The tang on the main blade is stamped CASE XX / METAL STAMPINGS / LTD  Original aluminum handle scales; one side is stamped with the Canadian “broad arrow”  inside letter C arsenal acceptance stamp. The handle is tight; original shackle (clasp); all handle parts are solid with no play; a few minor contact marks on aluminum handle are noted for accuracy.  This rare Canadian model M346 Canada WW2 Case XX marlin spike knife is in excellent overall condition, considering the age. I have never seen these specimens in the condition better than this. Don’t miss your chance to add this scarce military knife in rare unused condition to your collection!

This original Canada WW2 Case XX marlin spike knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way. It is in 100% original “as is” condition; these are the actual photos. I have a few more American, German, British, Italian, and French fighting knives, as well as some scarce WW2 and WW1 daggers, trench knives and bayonets available for sale – please take a look in the Militaria section.
